Citizens Work in Child Care Centers
on Early Education Awareness Day
As part of their Education Starts Early campaign, the Cabell-Wayne Early
Childhood Council is sponsoring an Early Education Awareness Day on Tuesday,
April 20, 2004, which is during the national Week of the Young Child.
The purpose of this event is to encourage community involvement in the
education of our youngest citizens. Participants in Early Education Awareness
Day include Senator Bob Plymale, Marie Redd, Delegate Greg Howard, Delegate
Kelli Sobonya, Sandra Cole and others. Early education programs involved
are Barnett Child Care Center, Bison Playmates Center, Child Development
Academy at Marshall University, Norma Gray Early Learning Center and others.
Early learning programs are dramatically under funded. Yet, the early
years of life provide the best opportunity to influence a childs
moral, intellectual and physical growth. Children with high quality early
childhood experiences start school ready to learn and are more likely
to be successful in school and become productive members of the workforce.
Children are the next generation of community workers, leaders and volunteers.
Only by giving young children quality care and experiences can their fullest
potential as citizens be harnessed. To improve the future of our area,
we must work together and start early by getting involved in the education
of our youngest citizens.
